Cats, Dogs and Everything Else!
For any photographer art shows up in daily life from moment to
moment. My grandmother Jessamine always had her eye out for
opportunities. She loved photography and capturing the magic
of each day. That’s what makes her photographs so interesting.
She didn’t miss much.

She didn’t miss much.
After she and Will lost the X4 Ranch in the depression, they moved
just east of their prior location in Kirby, Montana to what they
called the Rosebud Mountain Ranch. It was much smaller acreage,
but they continued to raise some cattle and horses. Jessamine by
then was also managing her father’s dude ranch, the Spear O Wigwam,
high in the Big Horn Mountains. That dude ranch kept them afloat
through those tough times and employed their growing children.
Here is their fun-loving cattle dog Goggles in 1927! The name fits.

There’s always cats around to catch the mice and other critters.
The caption to this photo identifies the kitty as Mrs. Stanbaugh’s
cat on the window sill--in the magic of shadows and light. This
photo was taken in July 1937.

Landscapes are always of interest. This one shows the entrance to
the Little Big Horn Canyon in the Big Horn Mountains. This was
a popular outing with their guests in a beautiful setting. Jessamine
designed this stunning frame for her photos in 1939.

Jessamine enjoyed capturing her dudes out riding, especially if the
landscape was interesting, as in this photo of Mr. Enous posing near
some rim rocks (March 14, 1937).

Last but not least, here is a fine farewell from her sons, Torrey
and Victor, off to gather some cattle. A wintertime photo from 1939.

Now dear reader, don’t shirk your job. Read more of my blogs at:
